Des que vaig sentir per primer cop aquesta cançó de Will I Am, un dels membres de Black Eyed Peas, a favor de la campanya del candidat demòcrata Barack Obama, no he pogut deixar d’escoltar-la una i altra vegada.
Malgrat no estar massa d’acord en els plantejaments que, fins ara, ha expressat el senador per Illinois, la lletra de la cançó em porta a reconèixer, un cop més, la grandesa d’un poble com l’americà. Només el primer vers “It was a creed written into the founding documents that declared the destiny of a nation.” ja em posa la pell de gallina. Sempre tenen presents els pares fundadors del país i la feina que van fer per crear un nou ens basat en les llibertats i el progrés.
També, reconeixo que en el text identifico involuntariament frases que podríem relacionar amb la feina que ens queda per fer a Catalunya: "We know the battle ahead will be long, but always remember that no matter what obstacles stand in our way, nothing can stand in the way of the power of millions of voices calling for change” o “that we are not as divided as our politics suggests; that we are one people; we are one nation; and together, we will begin the next great chapter in the American [Catalan] story with three words that will ring from coast to coast; from sea to shining sea: Yes We Can”.
De moment, però, només elocubracions… Si fòssim com els americans, segurament no hauríem d’escriure posts com aquests.
